Cody Weddle

In the interview with Cody Weddle, I deduce that he belongs to the gaming community and is basing his major on it as well. Gaming community is defined as people who are part of a group, faction, or guild that actively play together on one or more multiplayer games, but focusing on one game in particular.  Cody is 19 years old and lives in Overland Park, Kansas but was originally from Prairie village. Cody first got into gaming when he was very young by watching his father playing games like Starcraft, Warcraft, and World of Warcraft. Cody still plays World of Warcraft as well as being an active promoter of it and other Blizzard products. During the interview, Cody believes that the current state of gaming is awful due to negligence from the creators. In short, Cody is classified under the gaming community for his fondness for wanting to make games, getting into gaming at a very young age, and being an active promoter for gaming.
Cody is from Overland Park, Kansas and was originally from Prairie Village but location had very little to do with him getting into gaming. He is very fond of playing games like World of Warcraft since its release in November 23, 2004 and is the second rated person in PvP (player versus player) on his server. He is into MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) because he likes the idea of living another life where you decide the factors. His life revolves around gaming when he is in his spare time and can play for long periods time. Since 2004, World of Warcraft has seen a huge change into its community and Cody believes its negative due to the pandering of the lowest common denominator. In Conclusion, Cody would have been into gaming regardless of location due to accessibility from any computer.
Cody is still an avid player of World of Warcraft and actively promotes it within his community. We see this by the way he is very critical of Blizzard’s design choices, such as, Blizzard not listening to their community and just “throwing the dart and going where it lands”. In the future, Cody hopes that he will be able to design MMO’s like World of Warcraft as an actual major. One way that Cody stays active within his community is the use of third party communication software such as Discord or Teamspeak 3. To summarize, Cody is a very avid MMO gamer and we see this with how critical he can be towards design choices from creators and being vocal within his community with third party software.
In relation to the current state of gaming, Cody believes it is not going the way it should be. One way Cody points this out is by saying “Blizzard has separated from its roots and is pandering to the lowest niche, and as a result, divided its community”. This is further reinforced by how many people are coming and going from World of Warcraft, from 5.5 million in 2015 to about 5 million in 2018 and is expected to drop to 4.46 million by 2023. Cody also makes the point that World of Warcraft’s decline can be contributed to its infuriating design as quoted, “On Oct 1, 2015: I was mount farming by killing this specific boss and I killed it 350 times with a .7% drop rate before I got what I needed”. Cody specifies the state of gaming as declining due to the number of players leaving and the use of infuriating game design to make for time.
In conclusion, we can classify Cody Weddle as being part of the gaming community for his fondness for wanting to make them. He got into gaming when he was young from watching his dad play video games. This further explained by how critical Cody can be to Blizzard for its design choices and how he feels they make them. Despite having a negative view on gaming, Cody still promotes avidly playing MMORPGs and others within the category.
