Kelsey's Fur-Ever Friend

Kelsey's Fur-Ever Friend

If you own a pet you know that it can be super challenging , but also super rewarding. Kelsey is a passionate owner of a small petite little boxer named Meiko. She admits sometimes she has to wake up periodically throughout the night to take Meiko out to go to the bathroom. She even recalls one time Meiko tried to escape from her cage while she was away and got stuck between the metal bars. Dogs are can be helpless sometimes and either make messes for their owners , or make life stressful.

Being a dog owner isn’t easy and comes with several responsibilities. Your pup constantly requires food, exercise and attention. Kelsey admits even though it can be stressful at times it's totally worth it. She is such a loving dog owner and refers to Meiko by many nicknames including; “ fur baby”,”princess” and even the name “muffin butt”. Several pet owners give their companions nicknames to call them. Sometimes the nicknames are made from a certain characteristic or their personally, or sometimes they are made from what the pet is to the owner. Meiko is very much Kelsey’s princess.

Kelsey grew up with dogs when she was younger and that's where her loves for canine companions began. She remembers fondly having an energetic chocolate lab and golden retriever when she was younger. Kelsey was a little hesitant about having a boxer as a breed; because it wasn't one she knew a lot about. Her boyfriend did lots of convincing using funny and cute youtube videos of boxers. Kelsey admitted she “soon fell in love with their undeniable charm and personalities” When asked about why she found a new liking to the boxer breed
.
Kelsey then found Meiko about six months ago from a dog breeder up north. She recalls falling in love with her and her two brothers that she got for her boyfriend’s brother. Kelsey admits “I fell in love with her and wanted to take her as soon as we could.” and then she explains that they came back the next day to get Meiko’s two brothers who now belong to her boyfriends brother.

Meiko is definitely a unique pup with a unique name. Kelsey says she came with the name Meiko because of its japanese interpretation of “beautiful child” ,but it also means “little mischief” in a native american language. This double meaning is perfect for Meiko because of her adorable ,yet mischievous personality. Meiko is a 25 pound boxer with a lot of personality. When asked about Meiko’s usual behavior Kelsey said “ She is pretty well behaved because we started training her at 3 months” , but Kelsey later went on to admit sometimes Meiko “Talks back, especially when we tell her no. She’s definitely not a fan of that word” although sometimes Meiko has to act like a princess Kelsey loves her feisty attitude.

Kelsey explains that “Meiko is such a social dog…. She’ll walk up to any person or dog we walk by and want to play.” . Dogs are social animals especially at places like the dog park where they can run around with each and play. Kelsey did admit sometimes she gets worried about Meiko because of how tiny she is compared to the other dogs. Sometimes Meiko seems to want to play hard with other dogs; even though she is a tiny pup. Kelsey explains “ She wants to be friends with everyone, She’s such a ham.” when describing her relationship with playing with other pups.

Kelsey has many great memories with Meiko, but one of her most favorite was the night she tried to paint Meiko’s nails and Kelsey said “Meiko was not having it” and Meiko wouldn't stop squirming. She said she was laughing so hard because of how over dramatic Meiko was being.

Kelsey and Meiko seem inseparable, but Kelsey has places she can’t take her dog like restaurants , school and  work. Kelsey says that Meiko has an issue with separation anxiety whenever her owners are away. Kelsey also admits to feeling better when her dog is by her side. Kelsey keeps looking for new places and ways she can take her pup with her wherever she goes , so Meiko won’t be so anxious. It has gotten to the point where Kelsey is looking into turning Meiko into a service dog so that she can spend more time with her pooch and they can both have piece of mind.

Kelsey and Meiko have a big adventure of them in october. Kelsey and Meiko with be attending Barktoberfest at Shawnee Mission park. The event is a giant festival for owners and pooches alike and consist of things like music artist, Doggy yoga, Doggy fashion show and even a Dog and owner 5k. Kelsey has high hopes that her and Meiko will have a great time and that it will lead to many more adventures!

Once again being a dog owner can take a lot of work, but Kelsey does whatever it takes to keep her little mischievous pup happy. All of the late night walks and constant attention is worth it for her Meiko.
